GPM fundraiser at Hall

28 Jan

I apologize but, due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to make time this week to pen my usual ode to Dunvegan. Nevertheless, I did want to tell you about a fundraiser for the Glengarry Pioneer Museum this weekend. Curator Renée Homiak tells me that an old-fashioned Kitchen Ceilidh is planned for this coming Friday, January 30 at 7:00 PM. The evening of entertainment will feature the music and song of Scotland, Ireland and France as interpreted by talented local music-makers: Ashley MacLeod, Paddy Kelly and Gabrielle Campbell’s group, Les Musiciens Celtiques.

The price of admission to Friday’s ceilidh is a suggested donation of $10. There will also be a raffle with a host of great prizes. The proceeds of this event will go towards a daylong Celtic Fair, planned for Sunday July 19th at the Museum. The fair will showcase Celtic culture, including workshops on country-dance, singing, storytelling, art and spirituality. There will even be a whiskey tasting with drams of uisge beatha from Celtic regions around the globe.

The DRA Hall is located at 19053 County Road 24, just west of the intersection of the crossroads in Dunvegan.

Carnival Almost Here

If you’ve already got your calendar down from the fridge to make a note of this Friday’s Ceilidh, I’d also suggest you reserve Saturday, February 7th. That’s the date of the 2015 Dunvegan Winter Carnival. I’ll have all the details when I return next week.
